The rustic log surroundings of the Snowbirds Chalet in Bragg Creek was the setting for this year’s GBCTA Volunteer Appreciation Event. The occasion held on the evening of November 2 saw the place filled with enthusiastic trail builders who gathered for a spaghetti feast prepared by Korner Kitchen.

The program hosted by President Con Schiebel included highlights of this year’s construction season presented by Alf Skrastins and acknowledgements of a job well done by the Alberta Parks Regional Director, Michael Roycroft. Eric Lloyd gave a run down on community trails maintenance and construction activities which included the challenges encountered on the TCT (The Great Trail) bridge project. Also acknowledged were all the folks working in the background of the organization who keep the wheels turning. Some impressive statistics outlining the success of the volunteer program were presented.

These included:

  • Total logged volunteer hours: 6,400 hours
  • 40 organized trail days
  • An increase in trained Crew Leaders to a total of 17

The evening was filled with chatter about next year’s projects and who won what in the door prize draws.

We thank everyone who came out to support this event as well as all those volunteers who couldn’t make it.
