Happy New Year. Welcome to 2025! December was essentially a snow-free month and our current thin snow base fell during the third week of November. We got 5-7cm of new snow to welcome the new year. On single track trails, the new snow is bonding well to the underlying hard packed snow, ice and dirt and it is getting packed down by trail users. Be aware that the new snow has hidden any ice patches or ruts. Studded tires and traction devices are recommended. There is really not enough new snow for snowshoes. The ski trails were last roller packed in November and numerous melt-freeze cycles have left a hard, icy base and some bare ground under the new snow. The new snowfall is enough to make skiing possible on gentle trails, but hills will quickly get scraped down to the icy base.
The two week weather forecast is showing below cold temperatures for this week and warmer for next week, but virtually no additional snowfalls. Expect conditions to remain relatively unchanged for the time being.
