Spring has arrived at West Bragg Creek. Forecast temperatures well above 0C and stronger sunlight results in melting snow and ice during the day. When the snow and dirt thaws, it softens and user traffic like bike tires or footprints produce ruts and deep tread marks. When temperatures drop below freezing at night, the snow, ice and dirt become solid. This means that the best travel conditions exist early in the morning, while the tread is firm. So, watch the temperatures. Plan to travel while the tread is frozen and get off of the trails before you start leaving ruts and deep footprints.
Single track trails are a mix of firm packed, frozen snow or ice in shaded areas on popular trails to variable soft or crusty snow on less travelled trails, to wet, dry or frozen dirt on sun exposed trails. Check the trail conditions list for updates.
Reasonable skiing conditions still exist on the most shaded core Crystal Line trails, Sundog, Loggers and west Mountain Road. However, sun exposed trails like the first 1 km of Mountain Road, or Iron Springs now have sections of bare ground or ice.
