Sunday was busy with lots of people hiking and biking on dry trails. By noon on Monday, it was looking a lot like Christmas, with 15cm of accumulated snow.
Conditions on most trails are perfect for snowshoeing and the snow is still not too deep for hiking. By Monday afternoon, volunteers were out packing the snow on single track trails for fat-biking or roller packing the core XC ski trails. The grooming will compact the new snow down to about 5 cm, which is good for fat biking, but still a bit thin for skiing. Remember that this is just the first snowfall and it takes a bit of time for the base to set up and bond to the ground. The weather for for the rest of the month is forecast to be cold enough to keep the snow we have, with more snowfall expected later in the week. It looks as if winter is here!
