Ranger Summit to Strange Brew Loop – Difficulty: Blue, Fitness: Blue, Distance: 9.5 km, Elevation: 300 m. Technical trail.

So our topic for today is one of THE classic rides in WBC – the Ranger Summit to Strange Brew loop. This 10 km epic starts with a punchy uphill to get the lungs working, and heads into a winding forest climb up to a couple of beautiful viewpoints. At Baruch’s Corner, prepare to drop into the fun as you start the Strange Brew descent. This section of trail shares its name with the classic 1983 Bob and Doug McKenzie movie. Flow, tech, berms, roots and rocks will challenge all skill levels. Come home via 1.5 Km of Boundary Ridge or if you are bagged bail onto Iron Springs or Elbow ski trail for the descent to the parking lot. Strong legs can complete the loop in under an hour, but schedule 1.5 hours for this run on average. Take off eh!

South Side Loop: Gnarly!

The South Side Loop – Difficulty: Blue, Fitness: Black,
Distance: 21 km, Elevation: 715 m.  Flow and technical trails.
Looking for something a bit longer with a fantastic mix of downhill flow, lungbusting climbs and wicked views? Head up Ranger Summit and look for the intersection with Snakes and Ladders. Blast down the berm filled goodness that is ‘snakes’, stop in the meadows at the bottom for a drink, then climb up ‘ladders’ to the top of Ridgeback 3. Your second descent is a windy singletrack through the woods down to the bottom of a valley where you meet up with the bottom of Bobcat. Climb up Bobcat, ensuring to stop for a photo break. Head all the way back up, following the maps to the top of Strange Brew. With suspension in fun-mode, drop into the technical flow for your final descent back to the car. Bring lots of water and snacks on this one!
