If you’ve spent time on the WBC trails, chances are you’ve crossed paths with one of our most charming year round residents, the Whiskey Jack. Officially known as the Canada Jay, these fluffy grey and white birds are a familiar and much loved sight throughout Kananaskis Country and popular WBC routes such as Long Distance and Reconnect.
Whiskey Jacks are known for their curious, bold personalities and are not shy about getting close to people. Their thick plumage helps them thrive in cold weather, and unlike many birds, they remain active all winter long in the coniferous forests they call home.
Spotting one of these feathered locals is a small but special reminder of the vibrant wildlife that shares the WBC trail network with us.
